    Biography

Evan C. Werlin, M.D. was a rising general surgery resident at UCSF Department of Surgery, a beloved colleague and friend, when he tragically passed away on May 27, 2020, following a three-year hard fought battle against a rare form of cancer.

Evan excelled at everything he did; graduating from Brown University Magna cum laude, and The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine; and happily became a stellar general surgery resident at UCSF. During that time, Evan received numerous awards including the prestigious Teaching Excellence Award for Cherished Housestaff (T.E.A.C.H.) in 2017 and the William P. Schecter Trauma Resident of the Year Award in 2019. Most recently, Evan matched at his top choice for the Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at UCSF. He was a skilled surgeon with a deep passion for his chosen profession.

Evan lived life to the fullest and pursued his dreams wherever he could. He loved music, exotic travel, snowboarding, cats and throwing pottery- to name a few. His passion for living was boundless and he continued to be positive and strong throughout this terrible ordeal. Those who loved him are heartbroken and devastated by the loss of such an incredible man. The world is better for him having been in it, and we are lucky he touched our lives, albeit far too briefly.
